If you are writing about a specific return, include the taxpayer name and EIN. Please do not send your IRS PIN, a Social Security number or bank details by email. We never need them that way and cannot act on them.

Common questions

When is Form 2290 due?

The tax period runs 1 July to 30 June. For a vehicle already in use at the start of the period, the return is due by 31 August. For a vehicle first used later in the period, it is due by the last day of the month following the month of first use.

What is a suspended vehicle?

A vehicle you expect to run 5,000 miles or less in the period (7,500 for agricultural vehicles). No tax is due on it, but it is still reported and still appears on your Schedule 1. If it later exceeds the limit, the tax becomes due for the whole period and you must file an amended return.

The IRS rejected my return. What now?

Open the filing and read the error the IRS returned. Most rejections are a mismatch between the business name and the EIN on file with the IRS, or a duplicate return for the same period. Correct it and transmit again. We do not charge our filing fee twice for the same return.

I typed a VIN wrong and it has already been filed.

That needs a VIN correction, which is a separate filing type and is priced below a new return. Start a filing and choose VIN correction rather than editing the original.

Do I need my own IRS PIN?

Yes. You sign your own return with a 5-digit self-select PIN of your choosing, any five digits except 00000. We cannot sign for you; federal law requires the taxpayer’s signature.

How do I pay the tax itself?

Separately from our fee. You can authorise the IRS to debit your bank account (EFW) as part of the filing, or pay yourself through EFTPS or by card at irs.gov. Choosing EFTPS or card means the tax is unpaid until you do it, and IRS penalties run from the deadline.

My fleet is larger than the self-serve limit.

Returns above the published limit are quoted individually rather than charged a band rate. Your return is still saved in full. Get in touch and we will quote it.

Still stuck?

Email us. If it is a rejection, the IRS error code from your filing page is the single most useful thing you can include. It tells us in one line what would otherwise take several messages to work out.
